Playroom Organization: Closet Goals

shahla · February 10, 2020 · 1 Comment

Playroom organization has been at the top of my to-do list since the beginning of the year. We have been on a purge and organization mission since before the holidays. It feels like as soon as one room is organized, another room is in disarray. I think this is just the cycle one lives through as a parent, so we are learning to go with the flow. What we have realized in the playroom, is that the fewer objects we have; the easier it is to organize. Duh! Right? But it is had to purge when your kids are going through the giveaway bag and finding their “favorite” toy. The one he/she has not touched for six months. So we talk about kids who would love to receive donations and how much it would mean to them (and then many times I do the purging while they are at school).

When it comes to the kids’ rooms, I have posted a couple different times about playroom organization (check out this one). This specific post will be focusing on my favorite organizational finds for the closet. Hopefully you find some items that can help you get and stay organized. Organization System

If you have been following along for awhile, you know how much I love these Kallax bookshelves from Ikea. I have turned the four cubby version into a reading bench (you can find that post here). The eight cubby version is perfect for toy storage. I bought the bins from Ikea too. If you can’t make it to an Ikea; this 8 cubby system is perfect and under $60! These bins are under $20!

I used my Cricut machine to cut vinyl labels using iron-on vinyl. Then, I used my Easy Press to adhere the vinyl to the bins. Quick tip: Play around with the temperature of your Easy Press. I started at 350 degrees and scorched the vinyl and ended up with lines on my bin. I used parchment paper (to protect the bin) and lower temps (longer time) to adhere the vinyl.

Plastic Bins

These bins stack up nicely and I love the insert that keeps smaller items together. I first saw these on Arin Solange’s Instagram post. I bought a dozen of them to use in my craft cabinets/kids rooms and now the playroom closet.

I used my Cricut machine to make adhesive vinyl labels for these bins. The bin and label combination has upped our playroom organization game for sure.

Lazy Susan

Lazy Susans can be found in many different locations in my house (under the sink, in the refrigerator, etc.). I used one here in the playroom closet to keep all of the kids’ art tools organized.

I love how this one has dividers and is clear, that way the kids can see everything without digging and making a mess.

Paper Sorter

A mail sorter is a perfect way to corral construction paper and coloring books. I had these items in a filing drawer in the past but the metal holder would always fall making a mess. This letter sorter is the perfect size. It did show up with a few nicks, but nothing that can’t be fixed with a fast touch up.

Check out the before picture below to see our playroom organization journey! I love a good transformation. Now here is hoping the kids can help me keep it organized!

You are an inspiration! This looks amazing, though I’m sad you have taken my “go-to” hide-and-seek spot and organized it. Now your kids will definitely find me!
