I love the look of Gingerbread houses and Christmas villages and wanted to incorporate them into our family room Christmas decor. I came upon this amazing blog post about DIY gingerbread gift boxes from The House That Lars built and I was inspired to create my own!
Originally, I was intimidated because I am not a very good artist. However, I have come to realize that it is the unique qualities and minor flaws that make these gingerbread gift boxes even more special because they are handmade.

- Glue gun
- X–acto blade
- scissors
- ruler
- water-based paint markers (I used both fine and medium point markers…medium saves a ton of time!)
- cotton balls (for chimney smoke)
- corrugated boxes
- 4x4x4 (perfect for ornaments and gift cards)
- 6x6x4 (great for mugs and small gifts)
- 6x6x6 (we used this size for larger candles, video games, makeup sets)
- 12x9x4 (perfect for scarves or a gift box like we made)
I tried to make these gingerbread gift boxes as reusable as possible. I added velcro to the side that was not glued to keep it closed and to help keep the box from being ruined when the recipient opens his or her gift. We also used paper shred to keep things from moving too much.
I love how these gingerbread gift boxes turned out and how they look under our tree!

Your gifts are too pretty to open! I love how these look and love the sentiment. It’s one thing to spread Holiday cheer, but the added touch of a hand-painted/decorated box is too sweet!
