The Halloween flying bats DIY is so easy it shouldn’t be called a DIY (but I hate using the word hack). Anyone can do this by buying a few things from Amazon. The only tricky part is trying to keep my sweet cat from attacking once he sees these (the intrusive thoughts always win). I will share where you can buy everything and what you need to do to create this fun fluttering bat that seems to fly around! Flying Bats Supplies
- Solar Fluttering Butterfly Stakes
- Bats (I like these plastic-like ones)
- Scissors
- Hot Glue
- Ribbon
- Foam Rounds (optional- for smaller displays)
Instructions
I show exactly how to do this in my social media accounts but hopefully I can describe it well here too.
First, I popped off the butterfly wings on the solar stakes using the small buttons on the body of the butterfly. I poked two holes with a small hole puncher into the bats I bought from Amazon to allow for easier gluing.
Then, I snipped off the antennae using scissors and used hot glue to glue the bat onto the butterfly body. Once the hot glue dried (which is very fast!) you are ready to test this out.
The solar stakes operate on battery too, so you can remove the solar panel and have it work strictly on battery. Heads up, these are not quiet when they operate. Once I added batteries to the chamber I was ready to place the stake in my florals.
Finally, I hid the stake in a floral arrangement making sure there was enough room for the bat to flutter around and turned on the fluttering mechanism (which was a little tricky to find since I hid the stake in my flowers). This took a few tries as the bat kept getting stuck in my florals. Once everything was at the right proportion the bat took flight fluttering around. It made for the perfect addition to a Halloween party setting.
