A couple years ago I shared my book advent calendar here. I would wrap 25 books in green wrapping paper and organize them from largest to smallest to make the stack of books resemble a tree. The kids loved it and I loved adding books to their library instead of clutter to the playroom. This post contains affiliate links which means I earn a commission at no extra charge to you.
This year I wanted to make my life a tad bit easier. You see, I usually wait until the last night of November and wrap each book. I don’t know if you have ever tried to wrap 25 books at one sitting, but it can be quite tedious! I purchased these great bags and I was able to quickly place each book in and fold down to size. I made my own tags (I will include the free download at the bottom of this post to get your own!) and printed them on adhesive paper. Each bag was embellished with bakers twine, fresh greenery, mini bottlebrush trees and wreaths.
The books included in the advent calendar are a mixture of series the kids really love and some Christmas books sprinkled in. I also like to add a few unique books that I know the kids will cherish. This year I chose the following:
- The Nutcracker— I have a copy that I had Santa “sign” with a special message for the kids. This is the version I really like.
- The Nightmare Before Christmas— As you know if you have been following us, we LOVE The Nightmare Before Christmas. This book has beautiful illustrations by Tim Burton himself and will no doubt be read a few dozen times before Christmas.
- Alphabetics: An Aesthetically Awesome Alliterated Alphabet Anthology— My friend Pat and his wife wrote this incredible book that is far from your average ABC book. Instead of the predictable A is for Apple, B is for Bat, C is for Cat, each letter is followed by an alliterated sentence. For example, “Daisy the diver dares a death-defying dip with dinosaurs.” I also love the glossary in the back as my kids love learning new words and I love their expanding vocabulary! The kids are so excited to find out what books are wrapped up and I can’t wait to cuddle up and read with them. I created a little reading area next to the decorated dollhouse that will hopefully be where they read and reenact their favorite books.
