Celebrating Milestones: Raising Good Humans

shahla · March 21, 2018 · 24 Comments

This post is sponsored by Everywhere Agency on behalf of Carter’s; however, all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

Some days it feels like negativity is everywhere. Whether it is the news or social media, it feels like it is hard to escape. When those feelings of negativity start creeping in, I look at my son and daughter and feel a surge of pride. You see, no matter what is going on, I am reminded throughout the day that I am raising good humans.

Carter’s is celebrating the milestones that our children experience and the emotions those firsts trigger in moms and dads.

When my kids were born, the milestones that I celebrated were the same ones other parents welcomed: first steps, first word, potty training, etc. Now as these two little ones grow, I am still celebrating milestones, but they have evolved to something a little different. Over the past couple years I have celebrated the first time my daughter stood up for herself, the first time my son stood up for his sister, their individuality and confidence and other good human milestones.

My children have taught me to look for the good in situations. And to also look to ‘do good’ when the opportunity presents itself.

I see these good human milestones at the park when both kids exhibit compassion when they run over to comfort a friend who has been hurt or is crying.

I see these good human milestones at school when my daughter sticks up for her friend who is being teased for wearing glasses. I know that she will speak up for herself and lend an extra voice to those who need one.

I see these good human milestones when I am complaining about the huge pile of their clothes that I need to wash and my daughter reminds me that we are fortunate to have clothes that we need to wash. It is the perspective I need to help remind me to see the good.

I see these good human milestones in their stubbornness. When we were shopping for new spring clothes I had a handful of outfits I thought was perfect for them. However, they were both set on the outfits they chose for themselves. It reminds me that their individuality is a sign of self-confidence. This confidence may start with clothes and accessories, but it will transcend farther. It will help them stand up for their beliefs. It will help them stand tall in the face of peer pressure.

What milestones are you celebrating this week?

Head over to Carter’s to see the ‘With You From The Start’ video and share your own special first moments. (Grab tissues, it’s a good one!).

They are so CUTE! I love that you celebrate milestones. I also really like that you celebrate ones that some might not. I am glad you see that you are raising good humans! It is awesome with all of the negativity and drama going around you that you can still see the “good”!

Looks like you are raising a couple of great kids. I remember when my son no longer wanted me to pick out his clothes. He was finding his own style. A huge part of growing up.

Haha, the big “milestone” for us was my 8yo wearing her first “big-girl” dress that made her look SO grown-up for her school concert last night!
