Balloon garlands– you see them everywhere on Instagram and Pinterest. They look easy enough and so many blogs say so. Except for this one. I must be one of the very few people who just cannot seem to get a balloon garland together with ease. I am also horrible at braiding hair, so I wonder if the two talents are connected??
In my quest to create the perfect balloon backdrop, I have picked up some tools that have made the process a bit more manageable. Here are some (this post contains affiliate links which means I earn commission at no additional charge to you):
Don’t waste your precious breath on blowing them up. When my sister and I were throwing a unicorn-themed Mother’s Day brunch (because moms are unicorns, duh!) we originally were going to blow up all the balloons ourselves. We ended up winded and lightheaded. I ordered this balloon inflater and tie-helper and it cut down our time spent by 90 percent! These clear plastic clips and balloon sticks are great for parties too.
A lot of blogs about balloon garlands say to use fish wire. I found it easier for me to use pipe cleaners from the craft store. I like the flexibility of the pipe cleaners to pose the balloons. A method that worked for me was: tying a bunch of pipe cleaners together (to make it longer) and cut some in half to attach the balloons to the longer strip. This method is especially useful when you are connecting the garland to something with slats (like I did the rainbow garland). I will still use fish wire at the end of the garlands to help hang it.
Variations in size and color give your balloon garland more shape. The smaller balloons also help cover any gaps or pipe cleaners that may be visible.
The good thing is there really is no right or wrong way to make a balloon garland! Have you ever made one?
